ART ON FIRE TOUR

Come take a walk with us!

Today, Downtown Visalia is a blaze of fun and now sports these unique pieces of eye candy for the many tourists and local pedestrians to view and enjoy.  Start your ART ON FIRE Hydrant Walk at Santa Fe and Main Street.  Heading west on Main Street, you will enjoy one or two hydrants on both the north and south side of each block.  As you stroll down the 18 blocks, stop into one of the many fine eateries and pick up a lunch to go.  At the west end of the hydrant tour, you will have a choice of either the Mayor's Park or The Ralph C. Moore Rose Garden Park to enjoy your lunch.  Then make your way back downtown to enjoy a special cold treat as you explore the many wonderful shops in Visalia's beautiful downtown area.

To create Visalia's ART on FIRE Hydrant Walk, Arts Visalia, made a call to local artists, asking them to develop painted designs for the hydrants along Main Street.  With a dual purpose of adding color to downtown while also raising funds to support Arts Visalia, our community's sole visual art center, artists from throughout the area submitted proposals reflective of our South Valley culture in their own artistic style.

Designs for the artworks now seen on twenty two fire hydrants in Downtown Visalia spread like wildfire.  Replacing the traditional yellow, the selected hydrants became the canvass for creative designs with unique themes.

The painted designs will remain on the hydrants until a new call for designs will be issued and local artists will once again compete for a chance to showcase their artwork as a part of the Art on Fire Walk in Downtown Visalia.

As you visit each hydrant on the walk, you will notice a plaque acknowledging the artist, the title of the artwork, and the sponsor of that hydrant.  Arts Visalia would like to thank many local businesses and community members whose donations made this project possible with a very special Thank You to the Visalia Fire Department and CAL Water for its help and support for Art of Fire.
